Grayson – The Establishment Candidate
Trey Grayson seems content to be the candidate of the political establishment. Last week his campaign made proud announcements of support from 27 state legislators and later 27 County Judge/Executives. (Is there something significant about the number 27 here?) What his campaign could use is more support from regular voters, particularly in this tough time when it is clear that the electorate is fed up with politics as usual. It gives the impression that elected officials are circling the wagons of the political machine and trying to protect one of their own.
This week Grayson’s new radio ad makes a big deal that he was born in Kentucky and went to Kentucky public schools. Now that is unique. It appears that Grayson is going to again appeal to the more narrow-minded side of a few Kentuckians and claim that Rand Paul isn’t authentic enough. Living and working and paying taxes in the state for over 20 years and being married to a native Kentuckian doesn’t count. Grayson should tell that to all of the other prominent Kentuckians who have spent their adult lives contributing to the welfare of the state who just happened to have been born elsewhere.
