Retired Gen. Wesley Clark dismissed Senator McCain’s military service as a qualification for the Presidency yesterday on Face the Nation. General Clark was commander of NATO for three years under President Clinton and since then has been a well know defender of liberal Democrats in military matters. He is now belittling John McCain’s military service as a naval fighter pilot in Vietnam where he was shot down and served 5 years in a North Vietnamese prisoner of war camp and was tortured. Clark appears to be the one sent out by the Obama campaign to attack Senator McCain on this topic because of his military service, while Obama has none.

Senator McConnell Addresses the McCain Victory Kentucky Event
Filed Under Kentucky, News | Leave a Comment
Senator Mitch McConnell addressed an enthusiastic crowd at the McCain Victory Kentucky event this evening. He pointed out that ever since he became the senate Republican leader, left wing extremist groups like MoveOn.Org are targeting him for defeat. Since the US Senate is the only government body in which a majority is not enough, the minority leader is very powerful. As the minority leader Senator McConnell has been able to prevent the Democrats from doing away with secret ballets in union elections and raising taxes on gas. From the enthusiasm of the crowd, it did not sound like they were happy about left wing organizations from San Francisco interfering in Kentucky elections.

McCain Comes to Louisville
Filed Under Kentucky, News | Leave a Comment
Senator John McCain came to Louisville this evening for perhaps his only major fund raiser in Kentucky. A large turnout at the Kentucky Convention Center was on hand along with Senator McConnell, Secretary Elaine Chao, Anne Northup, and Congressman Geoff Davis. Ambassador Cathy Bailey, chair of the McCain campaign in Kentucky, put on a successful event. Senator McCain’s campaign themes of Reform, Prosperity and Peace were the keynotes of his address.
Senator McCain’s plan to deal with the gas crisis is to produce more and use less. He called for the United States to become energy independent, similar to President Kennedy’s challenge to go to the moon. He envisions battery powered cars, oil shale, coal to liquid technologies and nuclear energy. He concluded his remarks with the importance of winning in Iraq. He declared his desire to get out of Iraq, but only after we win so there will be no need to go back at a later time. Senator McCain promises to put the nation first in all his decisions and to never go back on his word.

Today the Supreme Court of the United States in a 5-4 decision affirmed that the Second Amendment to the Constitution provides for an individual right to own a handgun. Justice Scalia wrote the majority opinion which was joined by Justices Roberts, Kennedy, Thomas and Alito.
The Washington D.C. law in question totally banned handgun possession in the home without a license, issued for periods of one year by the Chief of Police. The suit was brought against the District of Columbia by a policeman who was refused a license. It also required that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock at all times, rendering it inoperable and thus useless for self defense.
The good news that our Second Amendment right was upheld in this decision is dampened by the fact that four liberal justices believe we do not have the right to have a gun in our home for self defense. This ruling should reaffirm the importance of future Supreme Court justice nominations. One more liberal justice, which is almost a certainty if Obama is elected President, could overturn this important right.

Obama Plays Pretend
Filed Under National, News | Leave a Comment
You know what they say about one picture! Well here are a few words to describe this one. It appears that Obama and his team decided not to wait for the inauguration, or even winning the election. They created their own presidential seal for him. It’s doubtful we will be seeing much of the great seal in the future however, since even the liberal press laughed at the implication.

Health Insurance Protest Hits Louisville
Filed Under Healthcare, Opinion/Editorial | Leave a Comment
Yesterday was a day of national protest against health insurance corporations and here in Louisville, HUMANA was a target. It is easy to sympathize with the protestors on this subject from either side of the political spectrum. In the last 30 years, health insurance has undergone a major change from non-profit mutual type insurance companies owned by the insured to huge publicly traded corporations. With this change came a completely different mindset to healthcare. Corporations like HUMANA are focused on profits and not patient care. Make no mistake about it. They are primarily focused on quarterly profits and their stock price. Humana CEO Michael McCallister had a 5 year compensation total of $3.33 million according to Forbes. He owns $18.6 million in HUMANA stock. A look at the company executive compensation table from their SEC filings shows the other major executives are compensated at similar levels. These levels of compensation appear unreasonably high for any corporation, but for a healthcare company, they are bordering on unseemly. Read more
